Light Bike Service in Brighton & Hove
A full tune-up at your door for £40, without your bike ever leaving the house.
The Light Service is our most popular job and the right choice for a bike that’s basically sound but has started to feel tired — gears hunting, brakes a bit vague, chain squeaking on the hills.
What’s included
– Tyres checked and inflated, any punctures repaired
– Chain cleaned and oiled
– Brakes adjusted
– Gears adjusted
– Full safety check, with honest advice if anything further is needed
– Riding position adjusted so the bike actually fits you
That last one matters more than people expect. A saddle an inch too low will wreck your knees over a winter of commuting, and it takes two minutes to put right.
Is the Light Service enough, or do I need the Heavy?
Choose the Light Service (£40) if your bike works but needs sharpening up — an annual tune-up, a bike coming out of the shed for spring, or a commuter that’s getting sloppy.
Choose the Heavy Service (£70) if the bike has done a hard winter, has been standing for a year or more, is making noises you can’t identify, or if the wheels, bearings or cables have never been touched.
Not sure? Tell us the symptoms on the phone and we’ll tell you honestly which one you need. We’d rather do the £40 job well than sell you the £70 one you didn’t need.
How it works
When you book, we ask a few brief questions about the bike and its condition so we can bring the spares you’re likely to need. Then we cycle to you — we never use motor vehicles.
On arrival we check the bike over on the spot and give you a no-obligation quote before starting. If an unusual part is needed, we come back with it at no extra charge for the second visit.
You pay £40 on completion, if you’re satisfied, and the work is guaranteed for two weeks.
Why a mechanic who teaches
Every Getafix repair is carried out by an experienced mechanic — we don’t use volunteers or trainees. Bruce has instructed on Bike For Life’s professional cycle mechanics courses since 2000. Work is charged by time, so our experience makes the job quicker and therefore cheaper, not slower.
